La Turbie

La Turbie sits atop the Grande Corniche above Monaco, the high road used by Paris–Nice and by the Tour de France's 2024 finale into Nice.

La Turbie perches above Monaco on the Grande Corniche, the highest of the three roads linking Nice to the Italian border, built on the line of the old Roman Via Julia Augusta and marked in the village itself by the Trophée des Alpes, a monument to Emperor Augustus's Alpine conquests.

The Grande Corniche climbs roughly 13 kilometres out of Nice to La Turbie, sharing much of its route with the Col d'Èze finish of Paris–Nice — riders reaching the village often stop for a coffee before continuing on to the Moyenne Corniche and Èze, or descending toward Menton and the Col de la Madone, the training climb long favoured by Tony Rominger and Lance Armstrong.

The Tour de France's 2024 finale, its Stage 21 time trial into Nice, climbed this same Grande Corniche road on its way from Monaco, passing through La Turbie before descending to the Moyenne Corniche at Èze and on to the finish.

For a base, La Turbie offers a rare vantage point — Roman history, a direct line to two of the region's most storied climbs, and views stretching from Cap Ferrat to the Italian coast on a clear day.
